Race Day

Who puts on the event?

The event is being hosted by Evangel Assembly and Stop Human Trafficking in New England (SHINE).  The hard work and planning is done by many.  SHINE committee members, volunteers from Evangel Assembly, various sponsors and local businesses have come together to make this race a reality. These many people have come together to provide runners, walkers and our community with a fun, safe, and meaningful event that is a good value to participants and a positive event for our city. We strive hard to offer a well-organized and family-friendly event that honors victims who been brutally traumatized by criminal traffickers.

Is there a benefiting charity?

All proceeds from the event go to Route One Ministry and Polaris Project.  For more information about these amazing partners, checkout our Organizations page.

 

When and where is packet pickup?

​​Packet pickup will be the day of race only. Saturday morning from 8:00 am – 9:15 am at the Registration Tables in Forest Park (near the Bandshell).

Can I register on race day?

Yes – but earlier is better. We will offer race day registration from 8:00am – 9:15 am at the Registration Tables in Forest Park but strongly encourage you to register in advance.

ONLY THE FIRST 100 PRE-REGISTRANTS ARE GUARANTEED A RACE T-SHIRT.

Can I push my toddler/baby in a stroller?

Yes, but Strollers will be the last walkers to leave the start line. ​
 

Can I run with my dog?

No. Insurance requirements strictly forbid animals in the event.​
 

Can I get a refund if something comes up after I register?​

Sorry – no refunds.​
 

Do you have any post-race activities?

Yes.  Awards ceremony will take place at the Forest Park Bandshell shortly following the finish of the race.  A raffle for all run/walk participants will held as well.   Free drinks and a variety of refreshments will be available AT NO CHARGE.  Vendors will be present to provide you with the opportunity to join the fight to stop human trafficking.   Our vendors will include:

  • ROUTE ONE MINISTRY (representatives will be onsite)

  • POLARIS PROJECT

  • The Q 99.7 FM radio station on site.   Spin their wheel to win a prize and talk with local DJ's.

  • Talk with SHINE representatives about Human Trafficking and receive information on how you can help.

  • Visit our Evangel Assembly Tent and  find out more about Evangel  and their efforts to reach out in our  very own communities.

 

Do I have to pay for parking?

Yes - see the "Directions and Parking" below for details.

Can I have someone pick up my race packet if I can’t be there?

You must be present to pick up your packet.​

Will I get a T-shirt?

Only the first 100 pre-registered participants will be guaranteed our short-sleeved full color event T-shirt.  Race day registrant t-shirts may be available if supplies are available. ​
 

​Is the course hilly?

The  course is relatively flat with some rolling hills.

What happens if it rains?

Race will be rain or shine - as long as there is no lightning in the area. ​
 

What kind of fluid replenishment will you have?

Each participant will receive a complimentary bottle of water, along with a water station at the halfway marker.​  Additional supplies may be available as they last.

The results will be posted on-site immediately following the race and online at www.ratracetiming.com

FAQ

Forest Park is located at 302 Sumner Avenue, Springfield MA.   Please enter through the main park entrance on Sumner Avenue.   Proceed to the guard house and the following parking fees will apply:​

  • $3.00 in state

  • $5.00 out of state.

 

Parking is available surrounding the baseball fields with 2 rows of parking on all sides of the fields.  Registration and check-in will be behind the Recreation Building in the main courtyard.  The Recreation Building is near the Cyr Arena and basketball courts. 

Directions and Parking

9:30am September 22, 2018 Forest Park, Springfield, MA

The 5K run (3.1 miles) is a picturesque course with lush gardens,  beautiful duck ponds, and  scenic landscapes. Both first timers and speedsters will enjoy running this course. Electronic chip timing will be provided by RAT RACE TIMING.  Split times will be available at the half-way mark, along with a water station.  There will also be water and various refreshments available at NO CHARGE after the race.  In addition, we will have representatives from various organizations who are also committed to fighting human trafficking.   You will be able to talk with them and learn how you can partner with them to stop this epidemic.  (All proceeds go to Route One Ministry and Polaris Project,  both non-profit organizations that provide rescue and restoration to victims of human trafficking and those currently being trafficked who want to help.

 

A post-race awards ceremony and raffle will take place as well.

 

  • Electronic Chip Timing – provided by RAT RACE TIMING

  • Awards – Top 3 male overall; Top 3 female overall; Top Male and Female in selected age categories

  • Free T-Shirt for first 100 participants to pre-register.

  • A raffle with many different prizes will be held.

 

Important points to remember:

  • For the safety of all participants, please listen carefully to the pre-race instructions.

  • There will be volunteers along the course to make sure you know where to go.    Maps of the course will be available at the registration tables on race day.

  • There will be mile markers on the course at each mile. 

 

Results will be posted after runners begin crossing the  finish line. Results will be updated throughout the race until every runner  finishes. Results will be available online on RAT RACE TIMING's website.  The awards ceremony will begin shortly after the end of the race. 

 

Walkers can choose either the 5K course mapped out, or a one mile walk around the ball fields (two times around for a 2 mile walk).   Either route provides a beautiful, picturesque view of Forest Park.
